The US Department of Commerce (USDOC) has passed final regulations on September 11 to modernize the Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system.

The final regulations require applicants of steel import licenses to identify the country of origin, the country where the steel used to manufacture, as well as the country of melt and pour.

The scope of steel imports under the licensing restrictions was expanded to all products subject to Section 232 tariffs, and the SIMA system was extended indefinitely.
